Opinion: Gotham is good, but how far will it go?

I’ll admit when I first heard about Gotham, I wasn’t terribly enthused. A Batman show without Batman? What’s the point? Why show what iconic characters like Jim Gordon and Oswald Cobblepot a.k.a. The Penguin were up to before the time of the Dark Knight if we already know where they’ll end up? Despite my reservations, I gave the show a chance when it initially aired back in September and I am very glad I did. The show’s writers have done an excellent job of taking the iconic denizens of Gotham City and not only showing viewers who they were before Bruce Wayne donned the bat-eared cowl but also how they slowly evolve into the characters we know and love. However, as much as I’ve enjoyed watching Gotham, one question has kept tugging at the back of my mind: how far into the Batman mythos are the show’s writers willing to go?

Batman fans who are looking forward to playing the Dark Knight’s final Rocksteady-developed adventure Batman: Arkham Knight still have a bit of a wait ahead of them since the game has been delayed into 2015. However, for Arkham fans who have always wanted to explore more of the fiction surrounding Batman but never knew where to start, this prolonged waiting period provides the perfect opportunity. Building A Better Fight Scene For The Games We Love

With their recent showcasing of the “Combo Lab” mechanic for their upcoming sci-fi action adventure game Remember Me, developer Dontnod Entertainment is hoping to break new ground in delivering a cinematic fighting experience to players thanks to the ability to create custom combos by picking and choosing from a variety of different attacks. But while this new “Combo Lab” system is certainly a big step towards giving players a fighting system that is both organic as well as cinematic, it is still held back by the limited conventions of fighting in video games.

Video Game Review: Arkham City; The Dark Knight Returns Triumphant

Considering Arkham City, Rocksteady’s and Warner Brothers Game’s smash hit follow up to the 2009 game of the year Arkham Asylum, came out a little under a month ago, it may seem strange to have taken so long for me to get around to writing a review for it.  Well, I have two very good excuses for my delayed response: the first is that I wanted to wait until I had gotten a chance to sample all of the aspects the game has to offer including the optional Nightwing DLC that was just released a few days ago.  The second reason, and this shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s played the game so far, is that Arkham City is probably one of the greatest video games I have ever played and I just can’t put it down.
