Can EA Be Trusted By Gamers?

In my newest YouTube video, I discuss EA's recent handling of the SimCity offline mode situation and whether or not the company can be trusted after having continuously showed its blatant disregard for the gamers it supposedly care about.

This Week In Gaming: Valve Takes Over Your Living Room And Malaysian Politicians Make Stuff Up

Hello everyone, first off, apologies for my lack of updating this blog for many months now. I’ve been very busy with my other writing pursuits but I am now going to try to re-establish a weekly posting schedule for Inner Thoughts of a Quiet Gamer.

In this new weekly feature, I will be covering the latest announcements and happenings within the gaming world which I feel you need to know about. Below each section, I’ve included a handy source link in case you’d like to learn more about a particular story. For more pressing news, reviews, and opinions about the gaming world, be sure to head on over to VGU.TV where you’ll find more work by both myself and my fellow writing compatriots. And now, on to the news!

Buying An Unfinished Game: What Are You Really Paying For?

In the PC gaming market of today, developers and publishers are under more and more pressure to not only deliver great games, but deliver them as quickly as they can. But when speed of development comes at the price of quality and polish, is it fair to charge players for the game initially with the promise that the game will be completed (through post-release updates) down the road?

The Benefits Of Gaming: They’re Bigger Than You Think

I’m sure many of us have heard or read about how playing video games can have added benefits such as developing basic motor skills and cognitive functions, increased problem solving capabilities, staying in shape, even livening up a party with interactive music and dancing. As you can imagine, this frustration tends to rear its ugly head most often when I’m playing video games. I’m not afraid to admit I’ve broken my fair share of controllers, rage-quit from more than a couple online competitive games, and had my parents come into my room on more than one occasion and say “Nate, calm down it’s just a game.”

Can Subscription-Based MMO’s Survive In Today’s Market?

When they read that Bioware’s Triple-A MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic was converting to a free-to-play model this Fall, I doubt many gamers were surprised. The Old Republic is just one of many MMO’s that have made the switch from a sub-based business model to a F2P one over the past few years, other notable examples being Turbine’s Lord of the Rings Online and SOE’s Everquest II. The question is, was the plan to make it a sub-based MMO doomed from the start?

League Of Legends: My First True MOBA Experience

I've never been shy about the fact that I'm not a big competitive gamer. Sure I'll play the occasional round of Call of Duty multiplayer or a World of Warcraft battleground here and there but when it comes right down to it I'll always go for the cooperative multiplayer options over the competitive.

Top Five FPS Villains

While it’s true that FPS fans rarely need more incentive to line up their crosshairs and pull the trigger other than the game telling them “these are the bad guys, shoot them”, it cannot be denied that finally getting to take down the henchmen’s ringleader brings with it a special sort of satisfaction.
